He also provided cold drinks, coffee, chips and dip! His hospitality was enjoyed and appreciated by all. At one point during the meeting a golden full moon began to rise over one of the hills, it was a breathtaking moment. THANK YOU DON!! Meeting was called to order by Matt Williams and Fred Iaia at 7:30 SCTA NEWS: El Mirage course repair was done last Sunday. GCRR were praised for having the most people there and for coming the farthest. BLM is starting to remove mounds at El Mirage because motorcyclists are jumping off them. One man was injured near the timing tower during a jump (it was unrelated to our racing event). SCTA is still trying to find a replacement for Bev Stanley, who took photos at the events. So far there are no volunteers so SCTA may have to buy a digital camera for the club. Steve Bachelor reported on a new class for Bonneville this year: 49-81 - American built, no electronics (like electronic fuel injection etc.). You don't have to go into this class but once in it you can't pull out of that class, put electronics back on and then run in another class. Matt showed a new promotional item from SCTA, an antenna ball that has SCTA printed on it in red. They are asking $3.00 for them. (general consensus was that was too much for too little!) SCTA has put out the list of the rep meetings and board meetings for 2002. The meetings located in Anaheim are hard for Matt to get to so Wendy Hutchins will be going in his place. Thank you Wendy!! El Mirage Clean Up day had a great turnout from SCTA, 130 people! Each of the other organizations that participated had only 10-12 each GAS UP NEWS: Ballots for the Hall of Fame nominees were counted and of the 12 SCTA clubs only 7 returned their ballots. Of the 70 HoFs who were sent ballots, only 27 were returned. Matt has received photos of some of the vehicles to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which will be used in the program. Also Tom Hensley, who owns the Bert Monroe Motorcycle being inducted, is very excited about it being in the Hall of Fame. He said two other original Indian motorcycles will be available to be at the event if the club would like them. Everyone agreed that with the Bert Monroe Indian M/C and two others, it will make a nice display. (One is Steve Hunzinger's of Nipomo and the other is (?) Vaughn.) Jack Mendenhall has done a lot of work on the Hall of Fame logo and it looks a lot better than before. It has improved detail and colors that will stand out from the background, though it is still in the works. Larry Pederson is working on advertising flyers (at no charge) to send to past and perspective advertisers. Tim Rochlitzer is working with Mary West on the paperwork getting mailed out to the Hall of Fame members. Also in the Deceased category Moose McCauley was a tie for 6th place so he will be put on as 7th. This was announced at the Board Meeting and all were happy about it. Matt and Tim and Brian stopped at the "Wing and a Prayer" restaurant on their way back from El Mirage. Wing andd a Prayer have mugs and glasses which they might give to the club as door prizes for the Gas Up. They also have shirts with logos that might make good raffle prizes. Matt asked if the club wanted to continue with the Ladies Raffle and all voted YES. Jack talked to LaVoy about doing the set up of speakers and doing the video of the event. GCRR NEWS: Will Scott is still working on getting information from Bill Mathews on the Club Decals. He may still have the old art work which should save the club money when it is time to reorder. Chuck Small said he would also check with Art and Dean to see if they know the whereabouts of the master or art work. Don Oaks spoke about his experiences at El Mirage doing club duty in May. The last time he was there he was a teenager. He met nice people, and the smells, the feel of the engines, the tech area, were all exciting and brought back great memories. He'll really enjoy his retirement if he gets involved in El Mirage and he has already created a "spot" in his barn for "The Car", whenever he gets one. He had a great time and has already got a new fire extinguisher and supplies and has already volunteered to do the lakes duty for the June meet., (along with Larry Pederson). (NOTE: Don has a Thunderbird in his barn and he needs parts - I didn't catch the year of the car). Mary West has told Matt that Mike McCabe is having serious foot problems from his diabetes (infections that won't heal). Matt also announced that Verlon Marshall has had a stroke and is recuperating at home. Jack Mendenhall introduced his guest Bob Stokes, who is in charge of the Annual Buellton Avenue of the Flags Car Show on September 8, 2001, from 8:00-3:00 PM. All years of vehicles are welcome and trophies will be awarded for various classes. They will be having a Competition/Race class and invite all GCRR members to bring their race cars to this event. Pre-registration is $25 and the first 150 entrants receive a free event t-shirt, goody bag and dash plaque. A BBQ dinner will be held at Jack's Museum from 6:00 to 7:30 PM and all GCRR club members are invited to attend. You don't need to have a car in the show (and I believe it is free). Bob said he would love to have the race cars there for Friday night too. June El Mirage meet club runs: As of the writing of this news letter none of us have received the meet results. Harold Motsenbocker brought out his Corvette for the first time. Was overjoyed to pass inspection with only a couple of minor things to change. They were very impressed with his roll cage and he made two good runs. Mike Mendoza made two fast runs just short of the El Mirage record, strangely enough faster than the record at Bonneville. Tim Rochlitzer's, now, Multicolored Rocket Streamliner made both runs around 215 mph. Brian Rochlitzer was driving and said as soon as it came up on the power it started slipping big time. Don Oaks did course duties again and, if you can belive him, said he had a ball again. He is looking for a car to run, maybe with partners, so if you have or know of any good prospects give him a call at (805) 688-1121. Says he has a few $ left after buying 2 Ford econoline pickups to restore, maybe one with a midengine big block . Bonneville report: June 18th they are going to Bonneville to drag the course. The report is that the salt is in excellent condition per Don Vesco and Larry Volk. Mike Cook reported Pam Mangelli has processed 280 entries so far. Latest word is that the salt is much better than last year. Should be a barn burner this year with three or four cars out with the capability of over 400 mph (maybe finally close to 500).
